Chiefdom Area
FARM STEW is active in two communities near Chief Bwalya Mponda’s Palace. After several attempts to establish these communities, they are now stable and functioning well. One community, led by two volunteers, comprises 48 households. The other, consisting of 45 households, is led by two “Planters” who were previously inactive. Altogether, FARM STEW now supports 93 households in the chiefdom area.
Mutoni
FARM STEW communities are flourishing on Ncheta Island, particularly in Mutoni, located 5 km from the palace. Previously, Mutoni Village lagged behind in development. However, this changed when FARM STEW introduced several initiatives to improve local wellbeing. These included drilling the first borehole and launching an agroforestry project.
The program has been warmly received. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, four communities were established, representing over 200 households. Each community is supported by two fully trained volunteers, with eight volunteers serving in total.
The people of Mutoni are deeply grateful for FARM STEW/WG’s contributions, which include:
- 1 Buffalo Bicycle
- 2 Boreholes (one for community use, the other for irrigation)
- 800 Fruit Trees (variety)
- Seeds for 9 types of vegetables, including soybeans
